When a loved one or a member of the family are coming to the end of their life, it can be a difficult time for all those involved. Sometimes, whether the person or family are church-goers or not there can be great comfort in asking for the priest to say prayers for the one who is dying. These prayers are said at the bedside and are contained in a short service called ‘Last Rites’. This service is offered in faith of the sure and certain hope of the resurrection and in God’s presence, the God of Love who walks with us through the gateway of death.
After someone dies the family can make the decision to hold a funeral or memorial service either in church, at a graveside or at the crematorium. The Rector can lead any of these services. In Holy Trinity there is great flexibility as to how to remember the person who has died, and to celebrate their life. We can play music through the sound system, sing songs or hymns and say words and prayers that are appropriate for the person we are remembering. In any funeral service we will commend the loved one into God’s care and pray for their soul.
After the funeral you, the family, may wonder what to do with your loved one’s ashes. At Holy Trinity we can offer the opportunity to inter ashes into the ground and record the name of your loved one on our stone plaques. The service of interment only takes a few minutes, but the name will be inscribed forever on our walls.
If you wish to discuss the possibility of holding a funeral at Holy Trinity or elsewhere, please contact the Rector, Rev Canon Liz O’Ryan:
