Carols at the Fort

written by Richard Bland
Carol-singers at Fort Kinnaird

On Saturday 18 December, I was delighted that 11 others joined me to serenade the Christmas shoppers at Fort Kinnaird Retail Park with Christmas carols. The weather was very mild (for which we were all immensely grateful!), Hotel Chocolat supplied us all with hot chocolate at half-time (yummy!) and all the gifts of chocolate baubles were distributed to the passing children.

Although I do not expect any donations from the passers-by, they are always generous in throwing coins into the basket containing the children’s gifts and each year until 2021, the donations have been given to the charity supported by Fort Kinnaird. However, this year I decided to enhance Holy Trinity’s Christmas collections with the FK donations because we weren’t able to hold the Christmas Eve Stable Service which in the past has been the most lucrative for our chosen charities. The FK donations amounted to £80 which is a record!

The charities we supported were Smile Train and UNICEF.

My heartfelt thanks go to those who joined me on 18 December especially to Mary Kennedy who accompanied us on her accordion. Without her, the Lord only knows how we would have sounded!
