Prayer Pointers for May 2023

Week Beginning: Sunday Sunday 30th April – Vocations

“All things work together for good for those who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Give thanks for our God-given gifts, that we may recognise them in ourselves and each other and use them for the glory of God

Pray for those who are training for ordination and Lay Readership

Pray for those who are persecuted for their faith

Give thanks for the lives and example of St James and Philip

We thank you, Lord, for all your love

 Week Beginning: Sunday 7th May – Those in authority

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Phil 2:3)

Give thanks for all who fulfil positions of authority with love and integrity

Pray for those who lead to do so with God’s wisdom

Pray for those who are oppressed by harsh and unjust regimes, that they may hold fast to faith and hope

Pray for King Charles as he begins his reign

Lord hear us, Lord graciously hear us

Week Beginning: Sunday 14th May – Work of Christian Aid

“Love your neighbour as yourself.” Mark 12:31

Pray for our brothers and sisters who still live without clean water and in poverty. Reflect in prayer on ways we can help

Pray for the work of Christian Aid, that through the generosity of the nation they may relieve suffering throughout the world

Pray for a fairer sharing of resources in the world

Lord , may your justice be known throughout the world

 Week Beginning: Sunday 21st May – Baptism of Robin Forrester

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Mark 10:16)

Pray for the very young, that they may know the love of God through the care of their family

Pray for schools, for the teachers and pupils, that all may be done for the flourishing of each individual

Pray for all parents, especially those struggling to cope with the challenges of poverty, homelessness, their own mental health

Pray for children who have additional support needs, may they know their own worth and value

Lord, show us your love

Week Beginning: Sunday 28th May – Pentecost

“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them” (Acts 2:4)

Give thanks for the gift of the Holy Spirit

Sit in the presence of the Spirit and share your deepest desires

Pray for any difficult relationships, that the Spirit of love may enter in

Pray for those whom we love, and give thanks
