Change can be good – Prayer for August

written by Liz O'Ryan

Almighty God,
As we enjoy this summer month of August and gradually watch for the changing of the season, we hold fast to your unchanging nature, your everlasting love and faithfulness. We look to You as our Rock and foundation.

As the end of the holiday season approaches and the children prepare to return to school, we lift up to you those who will start school… those who will move to secondary schools… and those who are worried and nervous about what the new academic year will bring. We pray for the older youngsters who are moving area…. who are looking for accommodation and even employment. Allay the fears of those who worry…. and give courage to all to face the challenges that may be ahead.

We remember that you love us enough to want us to change…. to grow and develop. Whatever our stage of life help us to view change as positive and as something in which we can find your presence anew.
We pray for our world… and for those who are suffering because of the climate crisis. Help us to realise our responsibility in it all – that we may change ourselves to bring about hope for our planet. We pray for the countries suffering from drought or flooding… for those who have lost homes. Bring much needed rain to our thirsty lands here in Britain and help us to do all we can together to help slow down global warming.

As we wait the decision of the leadership race at Westminster may whoever is appointed lead us through this time of change with Your Wisdom and grace. May their heart be for the poor and vulnerable in our world.
Come Holy Spirit, come. Come into our world, our hearts and our souls, that we may discern and be close to the heart of God in all we say and do.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
