STANDING ROOM ONLY!
There were over 270 people at this year’s Stable Service. The church was packed, with standing room only, including in the balcony. But Health and Safety was carefully adhered to with strategically positioned fire extinguishers and buckets of water in case of any mishaps with the Christingles!
The new carpet was rolled back to accommodate not one, but two, donkeys. They stood patiently in the chancel and were extremely well-behaved, with the brush and shovel only being required once. The baby Jesus was equally well-behaved though Mary cuddled him throughout the service rather than risk lying him on a bed of rather scratchy straw.
Particularly memorable moments included the smallest shepherd feeding straw from the manger to the grateful donkeys and the littlest king sitting down at the front of the dais to unwrap the kings’ gifts!
